Rajasthan Travel Guide
Rajasthan is a land of distinct regions. Mewar, Marwar, and Shekhawati each carry their own architecture, dialect, and rhythm, and planning around them makes the trip richer.
Deserts and craft
Beyond the forts, the Thar Desert opens into dune country around Jaisalmer, where camel rides and sunset camps are a natural part of the journey. In Shekhawati, painted havelis line small market towns, their frescoes telling stories of merchant families. Rural villages near Jodhpur and Bikaner still produce block-printed textiles, pottery, and embroidered leather.
Visiting a village workshop or a haveli with a local guide gives context that a rushed visit cannot. Ask your planner to include time for these stops.
Pacing your route
Jaipur to Jodhpur
The drive passes Ajmer and Pushkar on the way, so a stop for lakeside views and the Brahma temple makes the transfer feel shorter and more rewarding.
Jodhpur to Jaisalmer
A reasonable detour is the village of Osian, with its ancient temples set in dry hills. Allow an unhurried start, as the desert road is best driven before the midday heat.
